I am psyched to be going to Vancouver next week to co-lead a workshop called "BodySpeak: Move it, hear it, live it".  The workshop focuses around the concept of how the movement of our bodies can inform us of how we are feeling, what we are resisting in our lives and where our areas of growth are.

In preparing for this workshop, my co-leader and I have had the opportunity check out for ourselves what it means to "be in our bodies".  We are such a cerebral society – we tend to think and analyze and we are constantly, perhaps by default, in our heads!  Not paying attention to what our bodies are telling us does not serve our greatest growth.  Often times, we may even notice a pain or an ache or another physical manifestation, like a breakout or rash, that is seemingly unexplicable and what do we do?  We choose to ignore it!

I know that when my energy is low, something in my life is pulling me down.  I know that when I'm slouched over in my posture, I am carrying a heavy issue or something is weighing heavy on me.  I am sure that when my skin is irritated, something in my life is grinding against what I believe in and I am very conscious that when I trip or fall out of the blue, that something is off balance in my life.

Our bodies tell us so much.  Get curious about what that pain in your shoulder is about; get to the root of why you are not sleeping well, figure out why your lower back hurts?  Listen and honour your body by making changes in your life to correct it and my guess is that your body will thank you.

These past two weeks, I am experiencing self-leadership in my life and business through a number of different lenses.  I am really seeing that as I show up more and more with my clients, with my friends, with the family, in my volunteer capacities, that the energy that flows between me and those relationships is so much more tangible and alive.  I can almost see the current that runs between us!  Having said that, I am also noticing that when we truly embrace our powerful selves, there is impact on those who receive us.  What have I learned?  I have really noticed that as we increase our leadership capacity, it absolutely calls forth leadership in others however the impact and reactions are so varied.  Reactions can vary from inspirational action, changes in perspective, jealousy, anger, judgment and I know that these reactions are results of people facing their own leadership issues.  I have learned that, as hard as it is to see negative emotions resulting from my own leadership, I know that playing small in order to manage the negativity, does not serve anyone.  And sometimes, being a leader, means forging ahead without full support.
