Greatness Tip!“What will people say?” “That won’t look good!” “I want to but I really shouldn’t!” Do these phrases sound familiar? At one point or another, we have all
had these conversations with ourselves, debating on what to do or how to
think about a particular subject. This
is called an essential-self/social-self conversation. In Martha Beck’s book Finding your own North Star, she explains how who really are and what
we truly value (our essential selves) often get masked by social pressures
and demands (our social selves). Like layers of an onion, we need to peel away our social layers and really explore what we REALLY want. So anytime you find yourself saying “I should” or “I’d better” or “I have to” – that’s your social-self talking. Your essential self starts its sentences off with “I want” or “I need” or “I love”. Which “self” are you listening to and honouring? SpotlightValues Discovery JourneyThe best way to dig right into the core of “who” you are, ignoring all the social musts in your life, is to discover your unique core values. Guided by our values and living our lives according to them leads us to personal fulfillment, more joy and peace and less stress. Take a Values Discovery Journey with me and explore what values really drive you, uncover the difference between your life’s “shoulds” vs. “wants” and make steps to live a more authentic life.
